...to the silly cultural practices of other people.
The concept of a festival celebrating the macabre, the fear-inducing, and some things which we all know don't exist, is not lady-like.
If we were in America, perhaps we could instead celebrate the fall crops and the autumn leaves that coincide with Halloween. But we are not.
Instead, Australians should celebrate a national holiday, the Spring Festival, on October 31. We can have parties to celebrate flowers and our locally grown and produced foods. This would not only be more lady-like, but also more cultrally and nationally appropriate. You could even celebrate the moon (I hear some people find it to be quite romantic).
While we've always known about Halloween, this is honestly the first year I have heard of many parties, celebrations, store sales etc celebrating this event. We are conforming to America in a tradition that doesn't apply to us. Thanksgiving would be a better traditional holiday for us to adopt.
Anyway. Be a lady. And don't wear Black. It's not a colour.
